  • 2 tsp – Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup – Butter At Room Temperature
  • 1/2 Cup – Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar

How to make Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Directions –

Step 1

today to get started for this recipe I’m going to be mixing up my dry ingredients first so in my bowl I’ve got two and a third cups of flour and to that, I’m going to be adding one tablespoon of baking powder I also have a little bit of salt here because of course salt really helps to enhance all of the flavors around it and when you mix salt with chocolate something magical happens to trust me you don’t want to skimp on the salt in a baked good recipe.

I’m going to give this a good mix just to make sure that our flour and our baking powder and our salt are really well combined

Step 2

then I can go ahead and set this aside while I get to work on mixing up our wet ingredients so I’ve got a cup of butter in my bowl that I’ve brought to room temperature working with room temperature butter is going to make your cookies extra delicious and make your life so much easier

now I’m just going to get in here with my hand mixer and give this butter a really nice beat i want to get it nice and light and fluffy if you want to go ahead and do this in a stand mixer you definitely can do that as well

Step 3

once my butter is nice and light and fluffy I’ll go ahead and add my sugar to this so I’m using a combination of brown sugar and white sugar brown sugar has this amazing flavor thanks to the molasses added to it and white sugar creates a really nice texture in your cookie which is why we use both so I’m just going to get right back in here with my hand mixer and continue to beat this until these are well incorporated

Step 4

then I’ll go ahead and add a nice splash of vanilla extract to this vanilla extract is one of those things that not only adds a ton of flavor to your cookies but also really enhances all the flavors around it so by adding vanilla you’re going to make your chocolate tastes extra delicious

I’ve also got two eggs headed in here and I’m just gonna use my hand mixer to give this another good whirl until everything’s really well combined

Step 5

okay so our butter mixture is fully prepared and that means it’s time to start adding our dry ingredients and i want to do this half at a time just so I don’t overwhelm my dough so I’ll add half-beat it in

then add the other half you’ll want to go slow at this point so you don’t get a big flowery mess all over your kitchen i feel like i always have a big flowery mess all over my kitchen just as soon as that’s mixed in we’ll add the other half of our dry ingredients mix it all up until i’ve created this really beautiful dough

now I should mention at this point what we have here is nothing more than just a classic cookie dough it’s got really good flavor and texture it’s going to bake up really beautifully but there’s nothing inherently special about this yet

Step 6

the next step is where the magic really happens and that’s because in these cookies instead of using traditional chocolate chips we’re going to be using

some hand-chopped semi sweetened chocolate and I have to tell you by hand chopping your chocolate like this you are going to get so much more chocolate in each and every bite and the results are absolutely amazing

Step 7

so I’m just going to go ahead and get in here with about 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate just so you know that’s a lot we’re not skimping here this is a celebration after all and we want to make sure that we are getting an ultra chocolatey cookie

I’m just going to go ahead and use a wooden spoon to get this mixed in I’ve tried to do this with silicone spoons before but they just have too much bend in them so it’s nice to use something that’s got a little more firmness to it

Step 8

now at this point, I will admit that the intensity of my cookie craving is at an all-time high but we do not want to rush these cookies the most important step to making the texture perfect here is to chill my dough and that means I’ve got to get it into the refrigerator covered for at least two hours

I know it’s basically torture but I promise you it will be worth the wait because when it comes out that chilled dough is going to create the most perfect cookies during baking all right friends it’s been two hours my dough is amply chilled and it’s time to start forming my cookies so for these cookies I want them to be big we are celebrating after all

Step 9

so I’m actually using an ice cream scoop for this usually use my little cookie scoop but today I’m going with an ice cream scoop and what I’m going to do is just roll it into a ball and then press it into a little disc before arranging it on my parchment-lined baking sheet I don’t want to leave it really mounded in the center because my cookies won’t bake evenly so by just pressing it down into a disk you’re going to make sure you get much more even cooking

now at this point, these cookies are ready for baking but one final step I really like to include just before getting these into the oven is adding another little bit of chocolate to the tops of each of my cookies this is going to help create a really beautiful appearance on the cookies so that they look just as good as they taste and come on guys more chocolate is always going to be better

Step 10

now that I’ve topped each of my cookies with a little more chocolate I’m gonna go ahead and get these baking I’ve got my oven preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and I want to cook these for between 8 and 10 minutes or just until they start to set what you’ll notice when they come out of the oven is that they won’t look fully cooked yet but not to worry they’re going to continue cooking for a few minutes once they’ve come out of the oven

the final step as they come out of the oven is to top them off with just a little bit of flaked sea salt that little bit of saltiness mixed with the beautiful sweetness of these cookies is going to send your taste buds for such a ride I promise you you will not regret

guys these cookies are seriously celebration worthy and I hope you love them as much as I do if you give them a try for yourselves be sure to follow me on Pinterest.
